Do you work in or support the Federal Sector?  Have you earned your FMP or CFM yet?  If not, then you will want to read this…

If you don’t work in the Federal sector, why should you care?  The Federal government is the largest property owner and tenant in the United States – thus from the sheer mass of the square footage they occupy, the inertia of the government’s decisions will bring us and the buildings we manage along with them.  If you don’t think credentials are important now, then you will want to keep reading…

GSAIn 2010, the Federal government passed the Federal Building Personnel Training Act (FBPTA), which requires that all building engineers and facility managers that operate or manage federal facilities to “demonstrate each [FBPTA] core competency identified for the category within one year” by attending industry training and obtaining recognized credentials.

The GSA was given a few years to identify the necessary core competencies and to evaluate training & credentials which conformed IFMA-training-fmp-cfmto the FBPTA.  As part of their analysis, the GSA officially recognized IFMA’s FMP and CFM as aligning with the FBPTA competencies.

Additionally, FM360 is in the process of submitting our online training series to the GSA for official recognition of alignment with the FBPTA.

I have been receiving inquiries and have heard a number of folks in the federal sector indicating that they are now being required (or strongly recommended) to earn their FMP or CFM.  While the wheels of the Federal government may turn slowly, they are now starting to gain momentum with respect to the FBPTA – don’t let this opportunity pass you by…
